# Fixing WordPress mixed content issues

**A mixed content warning occurs when a webpage loaded over a secure HTTPS connection also tries to load resources (such as images, scripts, or stylesheets) over an insecure HTTP connection.** This can expose visitors to security risks and cause browsers to block or flag the affected content.

When you visit a site using `https://` your browser will expect all the content to be sent securely, over SSL - which is what gives you https (HTTP Secure) and a secure padlock icon in your browser address bar.

However, sometimes content from the site or page will be sent over `http://` - and this will cause a mixed content warning. How you see this varies by browser, some show a warning, others display a warning icon or broken padlock, and others may silently block or hide the insecure content.

Resolving mixed content warnings is important to ensure all visitors have a secure, uninterrupted experience on your site. There are a number of options:

1. Use Why No Padlock to scan your site and identify exactly which resources are being loaded insecurely. You can then edit those posts or pages to update the links to `https://` - [Why No Padlock (external link opens in a new window)](https://www.whynopadlock.com/).
2. If there are simply too many insecure links to enable you to change them all quickly you could use a plug-in like [Really Simple SSL (external link opens in a new window)](https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/really-simple-ssl/) to ensure all content is served over `https://`
3. Use a WordPress plug-in like [Better Search and Replace (external link opens in a new window)](https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/better-search-replace/) to change all occurrences of `http://<your-website-domain>` with `https://<your-website-domain>`

Now that you have fixed the mixed content errors, you may want to [force visitors to use a secure connection](https://knowledge.blakemarkproductions.com/how-to-force-a-site-to-use-ssl-https).
